- Crash - March 6, 2006
The Oscar are dead to me. "Crash" is like the most racially charged scene in every movie ever made cut together. In all these other movies, however, the story was allowed to develop, the characters' hatred a slowly boiling vat of acid ready to explode and disintegrate society. In "Crash", it had already exploded and you're like "huh?" and "what?"! It was a pathetic attempt at a "message-movie". It was lazy, with too many story-lines and the stereotypes it was attempting to expose were stereotypes themselves. The drama was forced, the outrage unrealistic, and the coincidences too contrived. I disliked this movie and dislike the self-important Academy even more for failing to recognize a decent movie when they see it. Sheesh, I even prefer "Gladiator" to this movie! And the fact they are both in the same "Best film" category as "Schindler's List" and "Godfather" is depressing.
